SHANGHAI'S Jinshan District government has started making plans for the development of the Jinshan port area as part of the strategy in building Shanghai into an international shipping centre, Xinhua reports. Based on the whole development plan for Port of Shanghai approved by the Ministry of Transport, Jinshan government plans to build terminals on a 2.4-kilometre coast line and develop a 16.7-square-kilometre piece of waterfront land. Development of river, ocean shipping and railway intermodal means are also on the agenda. The plan will be worked out by 2013 and construction will start by 2014 if things proceed smoothly. After completion, the new port area will mainly be used for bulk cargo and chemicals. According to professional analyst, Shanghai has now accomplished its target of building Yangshan port area into its container shipping hub. The development of Jinshan port area will complement the container services offered with bulk to round out the competitive edges of the entire Port of Shanghai. Source: http://www.shippingonline.cn/
